Astral Weeks, released in 1968, finds Van Morrison melding folk, jazz, blues and soul into a series of long, flowing songs built on loose, improvisational performances. The arrangements foreground acoustic guitar, upright bass and subtle percussion with occasional strings and woodwinds, producing a chamberfolk atmosphere that complements Morrison's stream-of-consciousness vocals and poetic lyrics.
