The Upsetters

The Upsetters were a Jamaican band and studio outfit formed in 1968 and associated with producer Lee "Scratch" Perry. They performed instrumental reggae and early dub material, serving as Perry's backing musicians and as a vehicle for his studio experimentation. Their sound emphasized deep bass, layered rhythms and studio effects such as reverb and echo, and they were involved in the development of dub production techniques within reggae recording. The group operated through multiple lineups and disbanded in 1986.
