Ewan MacColl

Ewan MacColl (James Henry Miller, 1915–1989) was a British folk singer, songwriter, collector and radio dramatist who played a central role in the 20th century British folk revival. His work combined traditional song collecting and performance with original songs rooted in working class life and left-wing politics. Several of his compositions have been widely recorded, notably The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face and Dirty Old Town, and he collaborated closely with Peggy Seeger while promoting folk performance and education.
