Antônio Carlos Jobim

Antônio Carlos Jobim was a Brazilian composer, pianist, guitarist, and singer closely associated with the creation and global popularization of bossa nova. His music combines samba rhythms with jazz-influenced harmonies and lyrical, melodic lines, often delivered with intimate vocal phrasing and rhythmic, syncopated guitar accompaniment; he also contributed sophisticated arrangements that broadened Brazilian popular music's harmonic vocabulary. He collaborated with other Brazilian musicians and lyricists and remained influential through the mid 20th century. He died in 1994.
