William Onyeabor

William Onyeabor was a Nigerian musician who developed a distinctive synth-driven Afro-funk sound in the late 1970s and 1980s. His recordings fused pulsing analog synthesizers with funk rhythms and elements of highlife and soul, creating hypnotic, groove-based tracks with direct lyrical themes. Onyeabor maintained an enigmatic public profile and his work is often cited for its unconventional production and rhythmic intensity. He died in 2017.
