Van der Graaf Generator

Van der Graaf Generator is a British progressive rock band formed in 1967, known for a dark, intense take on art rock led by vocalist and songwriter Peter Hammill alongside organist Hugh Banton, saxophonist David Jackson and drummer Guy Evans. Their sound blends complex, often lengthy compositions with theatrical vocals, prominent organ and saxophone interplay, and introspective, literary lyrics with avant garde and classical touches. They were a distinctive and uncompromising presence in the early progressive rock scene before disbanding in 1978.
