Uncle Tupelo

Uncle Tupelo was an American band formed in 1987 that combined punk rock energy with country, folk, and rock traditions to produce a raw, roots-oriented sound often associated with the emergence of alt-country. The group was led by songwriters Jay Farrar and Jeff Tweedy with drummer Mike Heidorn, and they blended electric and acoustic arrangements, close harmonies, and traditional influences with original material. The band disbanded in 1994, after which its core members went on to form new projects that continued exploring similar musical directions.
