This Mortal Coil

This Mortal Coil was a British musical collective organized by 4AD founder Ivo Watts-Russell that operated from 1983 to 1991. The project assembled guest vocalists and instrumentalists from the 4AD roster and elsewhere to record atmospheric, mostly cover-based material that blends dream pop, gothic and ambient textures with layered, reverb-heavy arrangements. Vocals and arrangements rotated between contributors, producing a moody, cinematic sound associated with the label's aesthetic and with reinterpretations of existing songs.
