The Tennessee Two were the original backing duo for Johnny Cash, featuring guitarist Luther Perkins and bassist Marshall Grant. Their spare instrumentation paired Perkins's percussive electric guitar with Grant's steady bass to create a rhythmic, train-like groove that blended country and rockabilly elements. That minimalist sound became a core part of Cash's early recordings and helped shape a distinct rhythmic approach in mid-20th century country music.
