The Sun Ra Arkestra is an American jazz ensemble formed in 1952 by bandleader and composer Sun Ra. The group blends big band swing, free improvisation, and electronic textures with theatrical, space-themed imagery and an Afrofuturist outlook, and it has continued performing under the leadership of Marshall Allen after Sun Ra's death.
