The Staple Singers

The Staple Singers were an American family gospel and soul group formed in 1948 around patriarch Roebuck "Pops" Staples and his children, known for blending traditional gospel harmonies and spiritual themes with elements of folk, soul, and R&B. Their sound combined Pops Staples's electric guitar work with close family vocal harmonies and the expressive lead vocals of Mavis Staples, and the group became associated with bringing gospel-rooted music into more secular and socially conscious contexts in the mid 20th century.
