The Stanley Brothers

The Stanley Brothers were an American bluegrass duo formed in 1945 and active through 1966, centered on brothers Carter and Ralph Stanley. Their music drew on Appalachian mountain traditions and early country string-band styles, characterized by close sibling harmonies, acoustic instrumentation anchored by banjo and guitar, and a plaintive high lonesome vocal quality that helped shape mid 20th century bluegrass.
