The Spencer Davis Group

The Spencer Davis Group were a British beat and rhythm and blues band formed in Birmingham in 1963 and active until 1969. Their sound combined driving beat rhythms, soulful vocals and organ-led arrangements rooted in American R&B, with prominent keyboard and guitar parts. Early lineups featured Spencer Davis and a young Steve Winwood, whose singing and keyboard playing were central to the group’s early recordings and impact on the mid 1960s UK music scene.
