The Monks

The Monks were a US rock band formed in 1964 by American servicemen stationed in Germany. They developed a stark, rhythm-driven sound that blended garage rock rawness with experimental textures and early proto-punk aggression, characterized by repetitive riffs, heavy rhythm, feedback and shouted vocals alongside a confrontational visual image. Their approach anticipated musical and aesthetic elements later associated with punk and avant-garde rock.
