The Contours

The Contours were an American R&B vocal group formed in 1959 and active through 1968. Associated with the early Motown roster, they were known for a raw, energetic vocal approach that blended doo-wop harmonies, gospel-inflected intensity, and up-tempo, dance-oriented R&B. Their sound emphasized a gritty lead vocal supported by tight group harmonies and lively arrangements characteristic of the Detroit soul scene of the early 1960s.
