The Congos

The Congos are a Jamaican roots reggae vocal group formed in 1977, centered on Cedric Myton with Roydel Johnson and Watty Burnett. Their sound combines Myton's high tenor and layered vocal harmonies with deep basslines, slow to midtempo rhythms, and spiritually oriented lyrics. In the late 1970s they recorded with producer Lee "Scratch" Perry at Black Ark studios, sessions that helped shape their echo-laden production and dense vocal arrangements. The group is associated with the roots reggae movement and with harmony-focused vocal ensembles in Jamaica.
