The Communards

The Communards were a British synth-pop duo formed in 1985 and active until 1988, fronted by singer Jimmy Somerville with musician Richard Coles. Their sound combined electronic dance production and Hi-NRG beats with soulful, high-register vocals, drawing on disco and soul influences while addressing political and LGBT themes in their lyrics.
