The Chantels

The Chantels, formed in 1957 in the Bronx, are an American girl group known for close, doo-wop–influenced vocal harmonies and a clear lead vocal from Arlene Smith; their sound combined pop, rhythm and blues, and gospel elements and the group is often referenced as an early example of the modern girl group voice and arrangement style.
