The Birthday Party

The Birthday Party was an Australian post-punk band fronted by Nick Cave, with Rowland S. Howard on guitar and Mick Harvey among other members, known for a noisy, abrasive sound that combined dissonant guitar textures, driving rhythms, and dark, theatrical lyrics and performances, and for a confrontational live presence that helped shape early post-punk and alternative currents before the group disbanded in 1983.
