The Auteurs

The Auteurs were a British band led by songwriter Luke Haines, active from 1993 to 1999. Their sound combined guitar-driven alternative rock with literate, often sardonic lyrics and occasional orchestral or chamber-pop touches, placing them within the 1990s UK indie scene. The band was noted for Haines's dry vocal delivery and a focus on tightly written, sometimes acerbic songwriting.
