Sly & the Family Stone

Sly & the Family Stone was an American band formed in 1967 and active through 1975, led by singer and multi-instrumentalist Sly Stone (Sylvester Stewart). Their music blended funk, soul, rock and psychedelia, featuring driving rhythms, prominent bass, horn arrangements, tight vocal harmonies, and a mix of male and female voices. The band was notable for its racially and gender-integrated lineup and for combining danceable grooves with socially aware lyrics and studio experimentation.
