Roger Troutman

Roger Troutman was an American singer, songwriter and bandleader who led the Ohio funk group Zapp. He was known for blending live funk instrumentation with electronic production and for his signature use of the talk box to create distinctive robotic vocal effects. Troutman’s falsetto delivery and talk box technique became a recognizable element in 1980s electro-funk and R&B and continued to appear in later popular music. He died in 1999.
