Original Dixieland Jazz Band

Original Dixieland Jazz Band was an American ensemble formed in 1916 and active through 1925, known for a New Orleans derived Dixieland style featuring cornet-led melodies, clarinet and trombone counterpoint, and a driving rhythmic piano and percussion backing. They are widely cited as among the first groups to make commercially distributed jazz recordings in the United States, and their sound combined collective improvisation, arranged ensemble passages, and occasional novelty effects that reflected early jazz practices of the era.
