Marion Williams

Marion Williams was an American gospel singer known for a powerful, wide-ranging voice and a dynamic, improvisational delivery that blended traditional gospel fervor with blues and jazz inflections. She rose to prominence as a lead vocalist with a prominent mid-20th century gospel ensemble before pursuing a solo career, and she is remembered for vocal intensity, extended runs, and influence on later gospel and soul singers. She died in 1994.
