Johnny Otis

Johnny Otis was an American bandleader, percussionist, songwriter and record producer whose work helped shape West Coast rhythm and blues and early rock and roll. He led the Johnny Otis Orchestra, blended elements of blues, jazz, gospel and Latin rhythms in lively arrangements, and worked as a talent scout, radio personality and promoter of Black artists. Active across recording, performance and broadcasting, he remained a notable figure in American R&B until his death in 2012.
