John Coltrane Quartet

John Coltrane Quartet was an American jazz band active from 1959 to 1965 led by saxophonist John Coltrane with McCoy Tyner on piano, Jimmy Garrison on bass, and Elvin Jones on drums. The group developed a powerful modal and post-bop sound marked by extended improvisation, dense harmonic exploration, and strong rhythmic interplay, and their later work moved toward more spiritual and free-form approaches.
