Jimmy Yancey

Jimmy Yancey was an American pianist associated with early blues and boogie-woogie piano, noted for a steady, rolling left-hand bass pattern and relaxed, improvised right-hand lines. Working in Chicago and in informal barrelhouse settings, he performed solo and in duet contexts, including collaborations with his wife Estelle Yancey. His approach is often referenced in discussions of the development of piano-based blues and boogie-woogie; he died in 1951.
