Jessie Hill
Jessie Hill was a New Orleans rhythm and blues singer and songwriter whose work drew on the city’s groove-oriented R&B and early rock and roll. He is best known for composing and recording the 1960s song "Ooh Poo Pah Doo"; his recordings are marked by raw, energetic vocals, drum-driven arrangements, and rhythms influenced by the New Orleans second-line tradition. He was active in the regional music scene in the 1950s and 1960s and died in 1996.
