Grandmaster Melle Mel

Grandmaster Melle Mel, born Melvin Glover, is an American hip hop MC associated with early New York hip hop and the group Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five. He is known for a declarative, rhythmically precise delivery and for helping bring socially conscious, narrative-driven lyrics into rap through direct street-level storytelling and topical themes. His style emphasized clear enunciation and rhythmic phrasing that influenced the development of MCing as a vehicle for commentary as well as entertainment.
