Gang Starr

Gang Starr was an American hip hop duo formed in 1985 by MC Guru (Keith Elam) and producer DJ Premier (Christopher Martin). They developed a tight, boom-bap sound built around jazz-influenced sampling and hard-hitting, percussive beats paired with Guru’s calm, rhythmic vocal delivery and often observational, streetwise lyrics. The group is recognized for shaping an East Coast production style and remained active until disbanding in 2006.
