Elizabeth Cotten

Elizabeth Cotten was an American folk and blues singer, songwriter, and guitarist known for a distinctive left-handed fingerstyle in which she played a right-handed guitar upside down, using her thumb for steady bass lines and her fingers for melody. She wrote the song "Freight Train" as a young woman and received renewed attention during the mid-20th-century folk revival, becoming an influential figure for later acoustic guitarists and traditional folk performers before her death in 1987.
