Duke Ellington and His Orchestra

Led by pianist and composer Duke Ellington and formed in 1927 in the United States, Duke Ellington and His Orchestra was a prominent big band known for an orchestral approach to jazz. Their sound combined swing-era rhythms, rich horn voicings, extended compositions and arrangements tailored to showcase individual soloists, and the ensemble worked across many styles and decades while centering Ellington's compositional voice.
