Clarence "Pine Top" Smith

Clarence "Pine Top" Smith was an American pianist associated with early boogie-woogie and juke-joint piano traditions. His playing emphasized driving left-hand bass patterns and rhythmic, improvisatory right-hand figures that created a danceable groove; he recorded and performed in the late 1920s and died in 1929. His recorded piano style is frequently mentioned in accounts of early boogie-woogie.
