Charlie Christian

Charlie Christian was an American jazz guitarist who helped pioneer the use of the electric guitar in jazz. Known for a single-string approach and fluid, horn-like improvisations, his amplified playing with the Benny Goodman Orchestra and in small-group settings helped establish the guitar as a solo voice and bridged swing-era phrasing with emerging bebop ideas. He died in 1942.
