Booker T. & the MG's

Booker T. & the MG’s were an American instrumental R&B and soul band formed in Memphis in 1962 and disbanded in 2012. Serving as the house band for Stax Records, they were known for a tight, groove-oriented sound built around Booker T. Jones’s Hammond organ, Steve Cropper’s economical guitar, Donald “Duck” Dunn’s bass, and Al Jackson Jr.’s steady drumming. Their concise, rhythm-first arrangements helped shape the sound of 1960s soul and informed later developments in funk and rhythm and blues.
