Alex Chilton

Alex Chilton (1950–2010) was an American singer, songwriter, and musician who first came to prominence as a teenage frontman in the 1960s and later as a driving force behind the band Big Star. His voice combined a soulful, intimate delivery with a sometimes rough-edged tone, and his work moved between melodic pop, rock, rhythm and blues, and occasional experimental touches. Chilton's varied solo and collaborative output and his approach to songwriting and production have been cited as influential by many later alternative and indie musicians.
