Wayne Shorter

Wayne Shorter was an American saxophonist and composer who died in 2023. He played tenor and soprano saxophone and is known for compositions and improvisations that bridged post-bop, modal jazz, and fusion. Shorter held key roles with Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers and Miles Davis's second great quintet and later co-founded the fusion group Weather Report. His sound combined lyrical melody with advanced harmonic and structural ideas, and he is considered an influential figure in modern jazz.
