Throwing Muses

Throwing Muses are an American alternative rock band formed in 1981, led by songwriter and guitarist Kristin Hersh. Their music features abrupt shifts in tempo and dynamics, angular guitar work, and introspective, often cryptic lyrics that combine folk-influenced melodies with post-punk intensity. Emerging from the independent scene in the 1980s, they are known for idiosyncratic song structures and have been an influential presence in alternative and indie rock; early lineups included Tanya Donelly.
