The BBC Radiophonic Workshop
The BBC Radiophonic Workshop was a pioneering BBC studio unit founded in 1958 that experimented with electronic music and sound design for radio and television. Its members used tape manipulation, musique concrète techniques and early electronic instruments to create atmospheric incidental music and effects, and the Workshop is best known for realizing the electronic arrangement of the original Doctor Who theme. Their work helped expand how electronic processes could be applied in broadcasting and influenced later electronic and experimental musicians.
