Taraf de Haïdouks

Taraf de Haïdouks, formed in 1990 in Clejani, Romania, is a loose collective of Romani lăutari rooted in southern Romanian folk traditions. Their sound centers on virtuosic fiddles, cimbalom, accordion and double bass, delivering lively dance tunes, mournful doinas and improvisatory ornamentation with brisk tempos and strong rhythmic drive. They became known internationally in the 1990s for bringing a raw, communal performance style of Romanian and Romani repertoire to wider audiences.
