Swell Maps

Swell Maps were a British band formed in 1972 and active until 1980, known for a lo-fi, experimental take on punk and art rock that blended ragged guitars, brief pop songs and tape-collage noise. Their records mixed melodic hooks with improvised instrumentals and DIY production techniques, drawing on garage rock, psychedelia and avant-garde studio experimentation. The band's unconventional approach is often regarded as an early example of post-punk DIY and has been linked to later underground indie and experimental scenes.
