Ravi Shankar

Ravi Shankar was an Indian sitar player, composer, and teacher associated with the Hindustani classical tradition. His performances emphasized raga-based improvisation, microtonal ornamentation, and intricate rhythmic interplay on the sitar. He played a prominent role in bringing Indian classical music to international audiences through concerts and cross-cultural collaborations, and he influenced generations of musicians. He died in 2012.
