Rachid Taha

Rachid Taha was an Algerian-born French singer and musician who died in 2018. He mixed raï and North African musical traditions with rock, punk and electronic production, often singing in Arabic and French and combining traditional instruments with electric guitars and samples. Emerging in the 1980s with the band Carte de Séjour before a solo career, he was known for politically engaged lyrics about immigration and identity and for energetic live performances.
