Pharoah Sanders

Pharoah Sanders was an American tenor saxophonist associated with spiritual and avant-garde jazz. He became known in the 1960s for a powerful, raw tone and techniques such as overblowing and multiphonics, and for long, modal improvisations. Sanders worked with John Coltrane in the mid 1960s and later led groups that combined free-jazz approaches with elements drawn from world and devotional music, remaining active as a performer and recording artist until his death in 2022.
