Oscar Hammerstein II

Oscar Hammerstein II was an American lyricist and librettist known for shaping modern musical theatre through character-driven lyrics and integrated storytelling. He collaborated with composers including Jerome Kern and Richard Rodgers on stage works such as Show Boat, Oklahoma!, Carousel, South Pacific, The King and I, and The Sound of Music. His writing emphasized advancing plot and character through song. He died in 1960.
