Ngoni ba

Ngoni Ba is a Malian band led by ngoni player Bassekou Kouyaté that centers the ngoni, a traditional West African lute, in an amplified band setting. Their sound blends traditional Malian rhythms and plucked patterns with electric instrumentation and percussion, emphasizing interlocking melodies, driving grooves and call-and-response vocals, and translating the ngoni into a contemporary ensemble context.
