Miriam Makeba

Miriam Makeba was a South African singer and activist known for blending traditional African musical elements with jazz and popular song forms; she often sang in Xhosa, Zulu, and English and was an outspoken critic of apartheid, living in exile for many years before returning to South Africa and remaining a prominent cultural figure until her death in 2008.
