Lionel Bart

Lionel Bart was a British composer and lyricist best known for creating the stage musical Oliver!. His work combined elements of music-hall and mid-20th-century pop with traditional musical-theatre songwriting, producing catchy, character-driven numbers and vivid portrayals of London working-class life. Bart wrote both music and lyrics and is associated with the postwar British musical theatre scene.
