Lester Young
Lester Young was an American tenor saxophonist known for a light, lyrical tone, relaxed swing feel, and economical, understated improvisation. A leading figure of the swing era who was closely associated with the Count Basie Orchestra, he favored behind-the-beat phrasing, melodic clarity, and use of space, qualities that influenced later saxophonists and contributed to the development of a cooler, more laid-back jazz style. He was often called "Prez" by fellow musicians.
