La Monte Young

La Monte Young is an American composer associated with early minimalism and drone music. His compositions emphasize sustained tones, extended durations, static harmonic fields, and explorations of just intonation and tuning systems, often realized with bowed strings, sine tones, and electronic generators. Active from the 1960s onward, he organized the Theatre of Eternal Music and worked with collaborators such as Marian Zazeela, Tony Conrad, and John Cale, focusing on sound as an immersive, time-stretched experience that influenced later developments in minimal and drone-based practices.
